Important Updates Statement of Support from World Can't Wait
Posted by Worldcantwait on Friday, April 17, 2009 (19:02:13) (519 reads)

The New School Students’ Demands & Occupation Are Righteous; NYPD
Assaults & Arrests Are Wrong

The World Can’t Wait strongly condemns the NYPD’s vicious and
unjustified physical assault on students at the New School, and the
arrest of 22 demonstrators. We demand that charges against all of them
be dropped immediately, and express our full solidarity and support for
these New School resisters.

Important Updates Students re-occupied New School
Posted by alvinjohnson on Friday, April 10, 2009 (20:04:02) (539 reads)

Sometime in the early morning of Friday April 10th a group of approximately 18 students took over and occupied the Graduate Faculty building at 65 5th Avenue in New York. Students were able to hold and occupy the building for several hours before a mass of police, estimates coming in at around 100 NYPD on the scene, raided the building, pepper spraying and arresting all of the students inside.

There is a statement recently released also by the Adjunct-Faculty Union (ACT-UAW Local 7902) condemning the use of excessive force by President Kerrey and calling for an investigation into the matters behind these protests! Read it here, and the Student Senate has a post titled "Riot Police Storm 65 5th"

More details can be read at the following sites, more updates as we get new information.

Important Updates March 25th Student/Labor Rally at Hunter College
Posted by alvinjohnson on Friday, March 20, 2009 (18:05:12) (531 reads)

New School students and other defenders of education rights:

COME TO THE STUDENT/LABOR RALLY AT HUNTER COLLEGE ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25!

Rally outside the Hunter West building (southwest corner of 68th & Lex), starting at 4:00 p.m. [See Map] CUNY students need our solidarity in the head-on fight against a tuition hike and budget cuts that amount to a race and class purge against working-class and minority students. The rally is called by the Ad Hoc Committee Against CUNY Budget Cuts and Tuition Hikes, and is getting increasing support from immigrant, labor, community and student groups. Let's unite the struggles on all the campuses, and bring them together with the power of NYC's multiethnic, multinational working class!

Important Updates 1st Exile Teach-In a Success
Posted by alvinjohnson on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 (20:14:45) (620 reads)

Thanks to everyone who came out for the first University in Exile teach-in on Tuesday Feb 24th at the 12th St. building. It was a good beginning to more actions, and we held strong even as President Kerrey threatened students for exercising our rights of free assembly and free speech on campus. In case you missed the teach-in, don't fret. We filmed the event and a web stream will be available in a day or two of the whole teach-in in its first go! More teach-ins to come, so stay tuned! Until then, here's documentation of the New School administration threatening and harassing students at the Teach-In.
